The Mission of the Planning Department is to effectively facilitate the long-range planning policies of member communities.

The Planning Department approaches its mission through an array of programs and projects. The mix of activities changes from year to year depending upon community needs, but all projects and programs fall within one or more of the following categories:

• Administering regional planning efforts: developing and implementing regional and multi-jurisdictional plans and work programs. 
• Facilitating local planning: developing and updating comprehensive plans, transportation plans, environmental plans, work programs, and conducting special studies.
• Providing support for local planning initiatives: facilitating access to data, mapping services, education and training of local government officials and planning commissioners.
• Implementing local land development policies: developing and updating zoning, subdivision and other regulatory ordinances.
• Providing a forum for regional cooperation: facilitating committees meetings and providing staff support for regional planning initiatives.

The Planning Department operates with a staff of four (4) Full Time Equivalents including a Planning Director, a Senior Planner, a Regional Planner, and a part-time planning associate.
