I can't get the GIS web site to work properly. What should I do?

Make sure you are using Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher. Restart the GIS website. Make sure to wait until the map completely loads before pressing any other buttons.

How do I get property information for adjacent properties to the one I searched for?

Select the "i" (identify) button from the tool bar and click on the adjacent properties. The information will be listed for identified properties in the text frame on the right. See the "Help" screen for more details on using this button.

How recent is the data on the GIS web site?

The parcel data is updated monthly. The aerial photographs (orthophotos) were taken in 2002.

Why doesn't Netscape work with the GIS web site?

The measure tool uses "VML" to draw lines which is only supported in Internet Explorer.

How do I make a direct link in Internet Explorer to the GIS web site?

Once you are at the GIS website, add it to your favorites. Then go back into favorites, right click on the GIS website, and select properties. Change the last portion of the URL path from "Viewer.htm" to "Default.htm"

How to I go back to the previous list of properties in the text window at the right?

Hit the "Back" button on the browser menu two times. Ignore the first error message.

What is the best way to learn how to use the website?

Read the online "Help" and experiment.

How do I locate a street by name only?

Select the icon that looks like a mailbox and enter the street name you wish to find.

How do I measure areas like the size of my roof for new shingles or the size of my backyard for sod or fertilizer?

First, zoom in close to the area you want to measure. Then, select the icon that looks like a ruler and click points on the map around the area to be measured.

How do I measure how far it is from my house to my work?

First, zoom in close to the area you want to measure. Then, select the icon that looks like a ruler and click points on the map following the streets that you drive to work.

How do I reset the measure tool back to zero?

Click the icon to the left of the measure tool.

How do I print a map?

You can print a map without assessor database information by selecting the printer icon. This will ask you for a title for the map and open a new printer friendly window. If you want to print a map with the assessor property information, first search for a parcel and then push the "Open Print Window" button.
