Georgraphic Information Systems

The services of the Geographic Information Systems division are oriented toward providing information to groups both external and internal to the RDC.  This division is charged with the responsibility of supporting the demand for information required in the economic development and planning process.  Creation, update, and production of GIS products is essential in supporting local government.  Infrastructure, transportation networks, and emergency response information, as well as ascertaining areas suiting economic development incentives This includes the acquisition of grants, in graphically representing areas in need of economic development incentives, for regional planning, and for locational information.  The objective of this division is to be the information hub for the CSRA.

The GIS division is developing a regional geographic data information network that utilizes information gathered from state, local, and private sources. 

All activities are funded under a multiple funding concept whereby funds from numerous sources are pooled together to achieve the goals of the department.  The major goal of the department is to be the best source of information in the CSRA for economic development and planning data.  An ancillary function is the development and dissemination of promotional information about the CSRA.  Funding for this department is derived from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Economic Development Administration, special projects and local membership dues.

The division is funded by charges to the Center’s other departments for services provided and from local funds.  The Geographic Information System which includes the Center's GIS digitized mapping, operates with a staff of one (1) Full Time Equivalent. To accomplish future goals, one (1) additional GIS Technician may need to be added.  The addition of this staff person would be dependent upon additional revenue sources for the GIS program.
