Historic Preservation

Preservation of the region’s historic resources is another service that local governments rely on the Commission to achieve. Staff assist with National Register of Historic Places nominations, Georgia Historic Preservation initiatives, establishment of local Historic Preservation Committees, and acquisition of preservation tax incentives for public and private non-profit organizations.

Construction projects across the state have the potential to affect historic properties. When applicable, the Commission works with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Historic Preservation Division to conduct Section 106 reviews designed to identify the potential effects such actions might have on structural and archaeological properties within the construction area.
